CHASING AMEE
Saturday, June 18th - ArcelorMittal Dofasco Stage - 1:00pm
Ryan and Steve from CHASING AMEE each picked up a guitar in 2002 because they thought it would get them chicks. They were wrong (they went to prom together), but it did keep them busy in a small town while everyone else rode around in hatchbacks ‘beating the beat’. Not ones for hair gel, they jammed out in each other’s basements every Friday and Saturday night for most of high school, surviving off of the perks from their local Pizza Hut jobs. In the process, they relocated to Toronto and welcomed many members into their wolf pack but nothing seemed to feel quite right. Fast forward to fall of 2008 where a local newspaper ad brought them the likes of (then) bass player and current front man Tuck. After three rehearsals in the span of two weeks and the band felt it was time to play their first show, on national television. Some called it moronic, but their mothers were no longer shameful of their sons playing in a band.
The guys went on to log over 150+ shows to date and have shared the stage with fellow Canadians acts like Mariana’s Trench, Down with Webster, Wide Mouth Mason, The New Cities, April Wine (yes the April Wine) and Stereos…just to name a few. In early 2009 they released the subtle titled ‘Wet Dreams and Drama Queens’ demo, which charted on Purevolume’s ‘Top 100 Unsigned Downloads’ at #47, and briefly toured with The Johnstones. In December 2010 the band released their first music video for the single "Over & Over” which took a lot of people by the surprise and made them reevaluate the intentions of this band. The track itself was a departure from the undeniable pop-punk genre which the band fell critic to and was a definitive moment in showcasing that they are a band who doesn't feel the necessity to stick a genre or label.
Their musical style is a blend of everything from punk to 80’s rock to indie that come together for a unique and infectious sound, which is sure to be your next guilty pleasure. So infectious that is has recently garnered the interest of some of Canada’s top producers and A&R folk. To top that off their video for 'Over & Over' has gained heavy rotation on MuchMusic as well as New.Music.Live
The boys are hitting the road on their February 2011 "We are CHASING AMEE and we're here to watch Scott Pilgrim kick your teeth in" Tour which spreads 10 stops from Windsor all the way to Montreal. Following the tour, they are set to record their debut album with acclaimed producer Greig Nori. Slowly but surely CHASING AMEE is well on their way to moving out of their parent’s basements and claiming their spot as the band to watch out for in 2011.
