It's hard to believe that we are just over two weeks to this year's 31st Edition of our Sound of Music Festival. And if you have been following our announcements, you will know our line up of talent and events is just as fantastic as ever.
However here are some exciting, new "tricks up our sleeves" for this year you might not be aware of...
Caribana comes to the best parade in the area. We have added this flamboyant entry to the Grande Festival Parade. Come down on Saturday at 11am to see the parade with the renowned Burlington Teen Tour Band and now a taste of the islands.
Pine Street Expansion. Relax Saturday evening at the Affair at the Square and bring the Family to Sunday Funday over on Pine Street. See the Downtown Streetfest pages for more information on these two entertaining additions.
Extended Hours. Sunday George Canyon will be playing through our newly added 2 hours at the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Stage. The Carnival, Vendors and Gardens will be keeping pace with the George's Country set.
Taking it to the Streets Children's Education Program. Saturday Afternoon at the Burlington Arts Centre, right along side of our Classical Stage, the Festival will be running classes to add to our youths experience of Music, Theatre and Dance. These sessions are the first of many exciting opportunities for year round exposure to the arts presented by the Sound of Music Festival
Daytime Screens. Worried that you don't get the best view in the day? This year we are bringing new LED screens to Burlington allowing you to see all ArcelorMittal Dofasco Stage performers on the two large screens as well as up close.
Thursday Night Good times at the two stages with two great line-ups!! Thursday will kick off the Festival bigger than ever. We have entertainment for the young and young at heart with Marianas Trench and for the other tributes to Rush, AC/DC and Tragically Hip at the west end of the park on the OLG Stage.
Fireworks! Last year we celebrated 30 years with fireworks. It went over so well we are going to do it again on Saturday night - only, it will be even longer and synced to music. It is our way to cap off a great evening and celebrate with everyone who came down to have fun, socialize and enjoy excellent music.
Galaxie's Rising Star Contest! Cogeco Stage performers will have the option to compete with fellow artists over 3days. A panel of industry experienced judges will critique the artist's self selected song in their set and rank it based on quality, composition, lyrics and style. The winner, being announced Sunday, will enjoy a $3,000 grand prize. Check out the great talent on the Cogeco Stage and be your own judge.
But guess what - the best is still yet to come - Burlington's Sound Of Music Festival on Father's Day Weekend. Hope to see you there!
