Burlington, Ontario (April 13, 2008) Burlington's Sound of Music Festival is kick-starting it's musical line-up announcements confirming Kim Mitchell, Matt Dusk and Robert Michaels will be three of many Canadian musical talents performing on Friday night during the June 12-15, 2008 Festival weekend.
Kim Mitchell is always a crowd pleaser. A well known singer, songwriter, lyricist, guitarist emeritus and entertainer - that is Kim Mitchell. He has also been called a Canadian rock icon and returns to Burlington's Sound of Music Festival as he continues his rockin` journey, paved with gold and platinum records and Juno awards. After three decades on the Canadian music scene, Kim is considered one of the most influential and original members of Canada's rock elite. He recently released his eighth solo album, "Ain't Life Amazing", which is a collection of new rock & roll songs guaranteed to join his classics. He has stood the test of time and now returns to amaze his fans all over again at the Sound of Music's 29th Festival!
Matt Dusk was born and raised in Toronto. A classic Canadian crooner Matt burst onto the music scene in 2004 when he appeared in the Las Vegas TV reality show "The Casino". Following the series, Matt's swinging success earned him a Juno nomination for New Artist of the Year in 2005, as well as numerous hit singles including "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad". Matt has won over audiences worldwide with his rich, powerful voice and bold, upbeat personality. Matt's perspective on Jazz is clarified when he says "...my goal is to bring jazz a little more into the mainstream. But basically, at the
end of the day, all I really want to do is entertain people."
Robert Michaels has earned his reputation as one of Canada's most accomplished Latin Jazz guitarists. As a Toronto teenager, Robert wanted nothing more than to learn how to play the guitar. After he built his own guitar out of wood scraps, his parents relented and finally bought him the real thing. He has since turned this passion into success. His debut album "Paradiso" went on to achieve Platinum status in Canada, selling over 100,000 copies - an incredible feat for any artist but even more so for an instrumental musician. He has also received several Juno nominations, including Instrumental Album of the Year in 2003 for "Allegro".
Kim Mitchell, Matt Dusk and Robert Michaels will join more than 70 artists from across the country at the Festival with performances that include Latin, jazz, pop, rock, country, folk, Celtic and children's entertainment. Over four days, artists will perform on five stages throughout Burlington's spectacular downtown and waterfront, as well as at street level among outdoor patios, vendor marketplaces and dance demonstrations at the "Downtown Streetfest". Each year, the festival presents a Saturday afternoon Grand Festival Parade, one of only a few existing marching band parades remaining in Canada, featuring over 20 marching bands.
Thursday, June 12 - Sunday, June 15, 2008 will mark the Festival's 29th year of bringing "Four Fabulous Days of Music" to Spencer Smith Park, the city's beautiful waterfront park and downtown core. Through the generosity and support of sponsors and the dedication of over 400 volunteers, the event continues to be a FREE event for music lovers of all ages welcoming an estimated 190,000 visitors during 2007.
