Download PDFApril 7th, 2008
Burlington, Ontario (April 7, 2008) Two events will be held in April (Saturday, April 12 and Friday April 18) to raise funds to ensure that Burlington's Sound of Music Festival remains the largest free music festival in the region.
The First Annual ‘Fund' Night Out will take place on Saturday, April 12 from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am. Popular Niagara Falls dance band, "The Spinz", will raise the roof with a hot repertoire of dance hits including the Beatles, Bryan Adams, Roy Orbison, AC/DC, The Barenaked Ladies and much more. There will also be a "Gift Auction", an elimination draw and several other "Fund" raising activities. Consider it a casual night out for a good cause (jeans are definitely included in the dress code) and great value with a light buffet, live music, dancing and a cash bar for only $20.00 per ticket. The event will take place at Burlington's Central Lion's Club at 471 Pearl Street, three blocks west of Brant Street, two blocks north of Lakeshore Blvd in the heart of downtown Burlington.
Back by popular demand, Burlington's Sound of Music's Second Annual Youth Dance will be held on Friday, April 18th. This great night out for grade six, seven and eight students takes place at Tansley Woods Community Centre (just east of Walkers Line, on the south side of Upper Middle Road). The Dance runs from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. and once again features Spin Doctor's D.J.'s. Tickets are only $10.00 each and must be purchased in advance on Saturday, April 12 from 9-11 am, and from 6pm - 8pm Tuesday April 15, Wednesday April 16 and Thursday April 17in the foyer of Tansley Woods Community Centre. Cash only.
Over the last 29 years Burlington's Sound of Music Festival has grown to become one of Ontario's largest, free music festivals. Traditionally taking place on the Fathers Day weekend in June, from Thursday to Sunday, this award winning Festival features an extraordinary array of entertainment and activities for adults and children alike. The roster of entertainment has expanded to include more than 70 artists spanning many musical genres. In recent years Canadian icons and international talent such as Finger Eleven, George Fox, Molly Johnson, Kim Mitchell, Natalie McMaster, Michael Burgess, Murray McLauchlan, The Philosopher Kings and Sloan have performed along with a wealth of local talent.
June 12 - 15, 2008 will mark the Festivals 29th year of bringing "Four Fabulous Days of FREE Music" to Spencer Smith Park, the city's beautiful waterfront park and downtown core. Through the generosity and support of sponsors and dedication of over 400 volunteers, the event continues to be a FREE event for music lovers of all ages welcoming an estimated 180,000 visitors during 2007.
