Taking it to the Streets, Music Education Program

Burlington ON (June 9, 2011). Burlington's Sound of Music Festival is pleased to present our second annual Taking it to the Streets, Music Education Program.

 

Saturday, June 18th at the Burlington Art Centre (Brock Street and Lakeshore Road).Burlington's Sound of Music Festival and our community partners are pleased to bring you this unique music theatre program. Sign your child up today for an interactive, educational workshop and the opportunity to sing and dance. These workshops will serve as an introduction to drama skills, singing instruction and movement to music theatre songs.

 

These sessions are FREE and 45 minutes in length. They will be running on the afternoon of Saturday, June 18 at the Burlington Art Centre, space is limited; please contact musiced@soundofmusic.ca to secure your spot for any of the workshops listed below.

Our Award Winning Team

Helen Zdriluk developed the award-winning music theatre program at Burlington Central High School. She is currently the artistic director for Centre Stage Productions and the Founder of Centre Stage Theatre School, Burlington. Helen has conducted workshops internationally for both students and adults. In addition to completing a music theatre internship at the Shaw Festival, Helen teaches drama in education and children's theatre at Brock University, and collaborative practices at Sheridan College.

Adam Falcone is an award-winning actor and a graduate of the renowned performance program at University of Toronto and Sheridan College. He is also a certified teacher and a founding member of Centre Stage Production's educational outreach program and Centre Stage Theatre School.

Sara Jeffries is an award-winning performer who pioneered the music theatre program at M.M. Robinson High School. She currently teaches music theatre at MMR, Centre Stage Productions educational outreach program and Centre Stage Theatre School.

Through this program, the Festival organization endeavours to:

  • · Grow our youth's creative development and teamwork through musical education
  • · Make music available in the community to all through a unique program of musical education and training including singing and instrument practice and performances
  • · Foster a love and respect for the Arts
  • · Realize the intrinsic values of community, respect and the goodness of society which are natural outflows of music, education and teamwork

 

We already have 220 children registered in our program for this year's workshops. There are only a few spaces left.

NEXT WEEK, June 16th to 19th will mark Burlington's Sound Of Music Festival's 32nd year of creating "Four Fabulous Days of Free Music and Fun" along our beautiful picturesque waterfront, Spencer Smith Park, and throughout downtown Burlington. Through the generosity and support of sponsors and the dedication of over 600 volunteers, the Festival continues to be a free event for music lovers of all ages, welcoming close to 200,000 visitors annually.
