Burlington ON (May 13, 2010). Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival is pleased to announce our remaining scheduled Festival performers.
Appearing on the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Stage Thursday night, from 8:15 - 9:15pm, 2008 Juno nominee, Vancouver based Faber Drive (www.myspace.com/faberdrive). The Faber Drive that appears on its sophomore album can'T keEp A SecrEt is a band that has progressed beyond the Juno nominees of 2008. Where Seven Second Surgery laid the ground work for the Vancouver-based band’s career, can'T keEp A SecrEt now builds and evolves, deftly bringing bright colors, edgy tones, and more emotion into the fold and crossing the borders between Faber Drive’s punk rock roots into electro-pop mixed with epic balladry.
Burlington based The Ize (www.myspace.com/theizetunes) performs Friday evening, on the Hyundai Community Stage 7:00 - 7:45pm. In the summer of 2009, four effervescent young men decided to combine their musical prowess. Under the name "Something Social" they recorded songs, and played shows which garnered them a cult following. In 2010, with the addition of a new member, and a brand new sound, it seemed fitting to assume a new name. Thus, The Ize was born.
To kick off Saturday night on the ArcelorMittal Dofasco stage Dean Lickyer (www.myspace.com/deanlickyer). A four piece rock n’ roll machine hailing from Stoney Creek, Ontario made up of Josh Alvernia, Sean Royle, Justin Bosso and Zander Lamothe . An appearance on MUCH MUSIC's disBAND introduced their classic-rock inspired sound and style to rock fans across Canada and paved the way for a year of non-stop touring including an opening slot for KISS with Gene Simmons selecting them as the "best band at Canadian Music Week 2009".
A BIG Saturday afternoon over on the OLG stage includes The Diodes (www.myspace.com/thediodes). The Diodes were part of the first wave of international Punk bands to surface in 1976. Their appearance supporting the Talking Heads, January 1977, at Ontario College of Art is legendary in the development of the alternative music scene in Toronto and in Canada. The original 1977 line up of Paul Robinson, John Catto, Ian Mackay and John Hamilton embark on their first tour in 30 years, stopping of at Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival.
Later on that night at the OLG Stage, Selkie a fun-loving, acoustic based Celtic trio that has been exciting audiences around Ontario for the past 12 years. The harmonic combination of voices, along with melodic picking on the mandolin, lends itself to a unique and energetic retelling of both traditional and contemporary Celtic and Maritime music.
Followed by The Irish Descendants (www.irishdescendants.com). Since their formation in 1990, The Irish Descendants have garnered a loyal fan base in their native Canada, and captured the attention of an ever-growing international audience. The band’s award winning recordings range from lilting ballads to toe-tapping reels, and their high energy, humorous live performances have made them a popular attraction at home and abroad.
Capping off the evening the sure to be entertaining Ashley MacIsaac (www.ashleymacisaac.com ). Ashley MacIsaac is, in a sense, the musical representative of the pre-millenial generation of Eastern Canada. An ardent traditionalist with a penchant, nevertheless, for experimentation, this 35-year-old Nova Scotian native has been taught to play the fiddle the working-class, pub-stomp Cape Breton way: fast, furious and with phenomenal precision.
Father’s Day be sure to check out Fall Of Spring (www.fallofspring.com) on the Hyundai Community Stage 1:00 - 1:45pm. Fall Of Spring is the new definition of Pop Rock in the unsigned world of Canadian music. Within four months of their album release and debut performance Fall Of Spring was nominated for “Best New Artist of The Year” at The Hamilton Music Awards.
June 17th to 20th will mark Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival's 31st year of creating "Four Fabulous Days of Free Music and Fun” along our beautiful picturesque waterfront, Spencer Smith Park, and throughout downtown Burlington.
