March 15th, 2010

Burlington ON (March, 2010).  Burlington's Sound of Music Festival is looking for high energy, fun volunteers to help out with this year's Festival.  And with over 600 volunteers needed, 12 different areas and 35 activities to volunteer in, there is sure to be something for everyone. Most importantly our FREE Festival could not happen without our local volunteers!

Volunteers from the age of 14-100 are welcome. Volunteer schedules vary from 3 to 8 hours in duration and can be changed or modified to fit the volunteer's schedule. Burlington's Sound of Music Festival is proud to be able to offer many different volunteer options; our Festival is able to accommodate volunteers with special needs. Be sure to check out the online registration system at http://www.soundofmusic.ca/volunteers.php  to see all of the exciting volunteer options available, as well as information guides.

WHY VOLUNTEER

As a volunteer you will be helping out a fabulous FREE community event and find great satisfaction in your efforts.  Volunteers are able to see behind the scenes at our Festival, and meet great new friends. Our volunteers receive a volunteer newsletter, packed with information about the Festival and highlights for the season, a free t-shirt and food coupon while volunteering, you can obtain 40 hours of volunteering in one weekend to satisfy high school graduation needs, and we have awards given to our top volunteers.

Our Festival volunteers should be very proud of themselves and the work they do. To thank the volunteers each year we hold a Volunteer Reception Night, with beverages and entertainment to say thank you.

NEW THIS YEAR

Burlington's Sound of Music Festival has allocated funds to create the Sound of Music Festival Bursary. This Bursary will provide direct support to students in secondary school who have enrolled in a post-secondary institution for fall admission. Annually, two students will be selected to receive a $500 Bursary. All applicants will be reviews by representatives of Burlington's Sound of Music Festival. The successful recipients will be asked to attend a presentation ceremony. For more information please check http://www.soundofmusic.ca/volunteers.php

June 17th to 20th will mark Burlington's Sound of Music Festival's 31st year of creating "Four Fabulous Days of Free Music and Fun" along our beautiful picturesque waterfront, Spencer Smith Park, and throughout downtown Burlington.  Through the generosity and support of sponsors and the dedication of over 500 volunteers, the Festival continues to be a free event for music lovers of all ages, welcoming close to 190,000 visitors annually.
